    PPTP is very easy to setup. It can be used to bypass all Internet restrictions, but it is considered less secure.

OpenVPN is recommended as it has a stronger encryption and is compatible with most platforms. Since it is open-sourced and highly customizable, the thought of having a backdoor installed for access for government agencies is highly unlikely too. L2TP has a strong encryption too, however going through the UDP ports slows the traffic down. PPTP is recommended for easy access to VPN when security is not the main concern.
